Kettlebottom Outdoor Pursuits

Meet the Guides

Capt. Robert N. Roach III

Robert N. Roach III
Accepting the family legacy of the generations prior Capt. Robb Roach never had a chance to consider a life without hunting and fishing. With a heritage of being outdoors and living the outdoor lifestyle throughout the world, Robb wished to share his experience with those like him who have a passion for the outdoors. As president of Kettlebottom Outfitters, a USCG Captain and professional guide sharing the knowledge and experiences is a reality today!

John R. Longo

John Longo
John has been an outdoorsman since early childhood in Connecticut. From hunting upland game, waterfowl, to big game and fly fishing, he has spent four decades traveling New England and three continents in pursuit of unique outdoor opportunities.

As an American Kennel Club Performance Events Field Judge for over ten years, his knowledge of spaniels and retrievers is respected by many in the working dog community.

An expert marksman, John has shotgun, rifle and pistol experience that further compliments his knowledge of hunting. His big game experience includes over ten years of Mule Deer and Elk hunting experience in the western United States, Grizzly Bear, Sheep, and Caribou hunting in Alaska, and Black Bear and Whitetail Deer hunting in New England and Canada.

In addition, his knowledge of hunting the Eastern Wild Turkey is without comparison. An expert caller and student of this majestic bird have made a turkey hunting trip with John a much sought after event.

When he's not training dogs in the spring and summer, John spends much of his time fly fishing freshwater species of trout, salmon and bass that have also taken him to numerous rivers, lakes and streams in New England, North America and throughout the world.

His dedication to conservation is also one of his passions. He has served on the Board of Directors and has been a long time member of many wildlife conservation groups in his quest to insure that future generations will be able to both protect and enjoy the great outdoors.

Kettlebottom Outdoor Pursuits is delighted to have John as a member of our great team of outdoor experts and look forward to many segments from this accomplished sportsman.

Capt. Jason Howell

Jason Howell
Capt. Jason Howell grew up fishing RI waters out of Apponaug as a young man on his father's boat. This was the beginning of a life long passion. Years later, he took what he learned from those old salts in Apponaug and applied them on the Razin Kane charter boat out of Wickford Harbor run by Capt. Sandy Kane.

Surfing was another passion which brought him to know a great friend, Robb Roach. Together, Rob and he have fished and hunted RI for several years and have become a great team in the pursuit of outdoor adventures.

These interests led to an adventure of a lifetime when Capt. Chris Donato, of Samoan Sportfishing, offered him the opportunity to captain the Resort's fishing boat to hunt pelagic fish, such as marlin and tuna, in the South Pacific. While in Western Samoa, he worked along side the Billfish Foundation and an Educational Program in the Narragansett RI Pier School to tag and research Pacific billfish.

Jason is also a hunting enthusiast, especially waterfowl, which he has hunted in many states in the U.S. and in Mexico, with Kettlebottom Outfitters.

Whether it be fishing, hunting or surfing, his outdoor adventures with the Kettlebottom Team continues to be a great part of his life.

Ty K. Leger

Ty has been happiest outdoors all his life. Growing up with no TV in a very rural part of Boulder County, CO, the outdoors provided the bulk of his childhood entertainment. As he grew older, he found being anywhere outdoors preferable to anything else, enjoying kayaking and canoeing, hiking, snorkeling, camping, fishing, hunting, and all types of outdoor activities.

From the age of five, Ty has been obsessively fishing and spearfishing at every opportunity. Even though striped bass are his favorite, Ty is happy fishing or fly-fishing both fresh and salt water. He is an equal-opportunity fisherman, catching everything from largemouth bass, perch, and trout in fresh waters to saltwater striped bass, bluefish, and beyond. His obsession with the water has led him to own two kayaks (a sea kayak and a conventional one,) a one-man canoe, and a two-man canoe. He also owns enough varied fishing tackle to catch just about any type of fish that swims.

His love of all things outdoors has also recently led him into the world of hunting, where he makes attempts on the lives of ducks, geese, turkeys, and deer. (So far, only the deer have escaped his dinner plate.) With patience borne from endless hours fishing, he has taken quickly to hunting and has had a fair share of success.

Recently, Ty came on board with Kettlebottom Outdoor Pursuits. He handles a lot of the day to day business and is getting into the videography and editing work. He especially enjoys the videography, as it affords him a very good excuse to get out hunting or fishing and call it work. The job has also introduced him to the fast-paced world of offshore fishing, going out recently on the Bluefin Tuna trip off Chatham, MA.

Ty can be found across Rhode Island, fishing, hunting, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. Among his favorite places are Narragansett Bay, several salt ponds along the South Shore, Arcadia Park, Big River Management Area, and Wood River.
